Craftsman Automotive Floor Jack Review

2010 March 18

Craftsman makes a few automotive floor jacks.  I’ve owned two of them, the latest being part of a floor jack set that included jack stands and a creeper.  Their 3 ton floor jacks are some of the best I’ve ever used.  Not only do they come with a 1 year full warranty, but they have a really durable black finish with red accents.  So why do I like my craftsman floor jack so much?

  1. Customer Service – Buying a nice automotive floor jack is one thing.  Having a company that stands behind it is another.  Craftsman is known for standing behind their products and this product is no exactly the same.  I haven’t had to take mine in for anything, but I have had to take various other hand tools in and they always give me a replacement without any questions.  The same policy applies to their automotive floor jacks.
  2. Quality – This jack is built to last.  It’s made of steel and it’s very heavy, but not to heavy that you don’t want to use it.  It’s also got a great pump to lift ratio.  This means that for every pump of the jack the vertical travel of the jack is pretty high.  It makes lifting vehicles very easy with only a few pumps.  In fact I checked last night and it only take 4 pumps to lift both rear wheels off the ground on my Subaru.
  3. Strength – This automotive floor jack is rated at 3 tons and it really can lift 3 tons, more actually.  A lot of jack manufacturers will rate their jacks as being able to lift and hold 3 tons, when in reality they can’t.  I’ve lifted a few cars and trucks that were over 3 tons and it did lift them without a problem.  Would I recommend this on a day to day basis?  No way!  The fact is it can easily hold 3 tons.  I should mention that it’s always recommended to place jack stands under a car after raising any vehicle to it’s desired height with an automotive jack.

Overall I couldn’t be happier with my Craftsman automotive floor jack.  After using it for countless years it’s still going strong without even the slightest hint at giving up.  No leaks, no broken parts, not even any chipped paint which I still can’t believe.  Craftsman sells the set at their local stores for around $105 dollars on sale with the regular price coming in at $150 dollars plus tax.  Well worth it in my opinion for one of the most reliable automotive floor jacks around.
